Handstand Parade had the sound, the looks, and the on-stage charisma. All they needed now was an identity to match their flamboyant nature and their undulating sounds they created.
As mentioned already, their sounds are constant. There is a lot of constant, meandering sounds that play from start to finish in their songs, this is quite apparent when listening to their songs and struck me straight away. But how do you build an visual language around a constant rippling sound?
The band's unqiue sounds directed the design decisions that were made for this identity, using swirls and a typefaces that echoes both the extroverted nature of the band themselves, and their delicate sounds simultaneously.
The fragile 'spines' of Neo Deco represent the frailty of Handstand Parade' music, this visibly contrasts with the other bold, impactful features of typeface. This creates the kind of juxtaposition the band's identity is aiming for.
A fluid sound requires fluid design elements. The Hanstand Parade spellout wordmark and can be condensend down into a smaller symbol, comprising of 'HP'. This also lends itself to becoming a repeating pattern for use on collateral in print or digital.
These are the most expressive part of the Handstand Parade's visual language. The swirls encapsulate the band's constant undulation of sounds found throughout their songs. On top of that, they are also an incredibly impactful and versatile asset that can be used subtly or brazenly depending on the desired message.
Yet another opprtunity to exercise the right to display contrast, except this time through colour. Handstand Parade use a simple colour that resembles very much the CMYK values. These vibrant colours paired the subtle gradients you see below coincide the recurring visual language the band – Extrovert members with delicate flowing sounds.
The average attention span on social networks can be pretty low, so in order to garner attention to your content, impact and concise delivery is key (or cat pics). An almost endless application allows for vast amounts of freedom when creating social network content.
